Once again WEBB were privileged to be the show chosen to
celebrate with the Birmingham Cliff Richard Fan Club. It was a very
special event this year as the Fan Club has now been running for 25 years,
and this particular year the party also fell on Cliff's birthday. So it was
a party atmosphere before the event even started.
Ann was already busy when we arrived at the hotel, setting
up sales and tombola tables in the foyer, There were cards, records, paintings
and loads of memorabilia. She greeted us with fan mail - how wonderful is
that. We got busy getting the gear in and up and running. We had Pete and
Geoff with us again and they did their stuff to make the show run smoothly.
We had some bittersweet news a month or so ago, Tina our new
dancer is going to have baby. We're thrilled for her, but it left us a girl
short in the dance troupe. Linzi and Tay have been working extremely hard to
show their friend Emma the ropes and she did us proud. In fact we're proud
of them all.
We opened with Move It, and didn't
look back. The Kids joined us for Lucky Lips, Bachelor Boy, A Little in
love, and Daddy's Home. Tay left the stage and the girls joined Pete for
Devil Woman, Tay came back on for Visions, the kids then went off to change
and Pete sung the brilliant new version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and
What a Wonderful World. Pete then sat down for the beautiful ballad Better
Than I know Myself. We all had great fun with Livin' Doll. The kids came
back on for Gee Whiz it's You, In the Country, and My Kinda Life.
It was
great to see all the dancing, especially the people trying our dance
routines with us. Cakes came out and we went off to change for the second
half. We started the second half with Peace In Our Time
and Carrie, then Daniel joined us on the keyboards so Mandy could sing the
duet Suddenly with
Pete. Summer Holiday followed, then Angel, and The Day I Met Marie, love
that
orchestra!!. We had been told previously by Ann that What Car is one
of the most popular songs at the moment. We'd all worked hard to get
the dance moves close and were delighted when everyone joined in with them.
The Rock
and Roll Medley followed, then Daniel came back up on stage for Miss You
Nights, and the Brumburger Duet. After the Castles concerts, Linzi decided
it would be fun to change our version of Hand Jive to the new routine and
melody - now that was a challenge. All the hard work paid off, because the
comments we got after the show were wonderful. We love playing and this was
another of those frequent occasions when we run out of time, so we cut our
set short and finished with I'm Nearly Famous.
We had fun signing lots of photos and would like to thank you
all for your kind comments and Ann for all her support and kindness,
especially to Pete's Mum and Dad. Ann had a very stressful day organising
everything to run smoothly and I think everyone there would agree, it was a
fabulously successful event.
Thank you all so much, and look forward to seeing you all again next year.
